The ESI Model 88-5RPS Digital Controller is designed to meet the demanding challenges of remote motion control for up to five professional video cameras. The Model 88-5RPS provides a simple RS-422 interface to the ESI DPT family pan and tilt heads and is ideal for applications such as teleconferencing, churches, distance learning, tele-medicine, entertainment, and meeting room instrumentation.

The Model 88-5RPS can provide pan & tilt and lens control for up to 5 remote camera sites. This control can originate manually from the operator controls or from a remote computer system. The unit has the capability to receive commands from a single remote computer system and route the commands to all or each of the robotic camera heads on the system.

Eight presets per camera site may be selected from the Model 88-5RPS or remote computer. The digital design of the Model 88-5RPS allows custom controls to be included for unique customer requirements. A proportional deflection joystick provides the pan, tilt, and zoom control. Control of the focus is accomplished with proportional deflection "Seesaw" controls. The proportional controls allow a slow movement when the control is only slightly depressed and a rapid response when the control is fully depressed. Front panel user accessible switches allows pan, tilt, and lens control reversal.

The Model 88-5RPS console features a sloped front panel for ready access to all of the Model 88-5RPS controls. The unit is also available in a 19-inch rack mount version. Five RS-422 connectors are located on the rear of the unit to interface to each of the 5 remote camera sites. A 9 Pin D connector located on the rear of the Model 88-5RPS provides the RS-232 serial interface for remote computer communication. The Model 88-5RPS operates on world-wide A/C power.

The ESI Model 88-5RPS System Controller provides an optional interface to the JVC professional cameras. A JVC RM-LP55U Remote Camera Control Unit (CCU) will route CCU commands through the controller to any of five (5) JVC Cameras to a distance of up to 2,000 feet. These commands share the same RS-422 cable used to control the DPT heads. To use the remote CCU feature, depress the "CCU" switch on the front panel of the Model 88-5RPS. This will disable the pan & tilt control and enable the RM-LP55U. CCU commands may now be sent via the same 4 conductor RS-422 cable used to control the ESI DPT 115 heads. To return control to the pan & tilt head, depress the "CCU" switch again. The DPT heads pan & tilt and lens control commands are now enabled.
